Whether you pronounce it "oysters" or "ersters," don't call the whole thing off, because the Hilton Head Oyster Festival is back. If you don't like oysters, don't worry-other scrumptious food will be available. If you do like oysters, then you're definitely in for a treat. Purveyors of this yummy little shelled delicacy will serve them up fried, stewed, and steamed. You might also get your hands on a PoBoy and Oyster Chowder.

In addition to oysters, be prepared for awesome entertainment and thrilling fun. Children can check out the Kid Zone of games and activities. Save room for a sweet treat of roasted marshmallows. Sports fans can keep up with weekend football action on the big screen TV. Live music is also on the schedule. A crowd of 500 is expected Friday, and 1,500 to 2,000 on Saturday and Sunday.

The Festival is sponsored by South State Bank, and organized by the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association, aka Island Rec. This non-profit works to build community and provides services to the public. These include sports and recreation programs for children, adults and seniors. Community events like the Oyster Festival is another important component of Island Rec's mission.

Admission to the Hilton Head Oyster Festival is $6 per person. Children 10 and younger are free. Food and beverages are sold separately. To find out more about the Festival, visit http://islandreccenter.org/vc.php?ID=419.
