Hilton Head is a spectacular biking destination with 60 miles of bike paths and 100 miles of protected public pathways.

From Sea Pines north to the bridge on William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island offers miles of scenic biking paths along beaches, parks, scenic areas and resort communities. When the tide is out, Hilton Head offers 12 miles of hard-packed beaches where you can ride and cruise along the blissful island shoreline. With its perfect weather, breathtaking scenery and playful island scene, Hilton Head Island will set your cycling spirit free.

Whether your perfect holiday is a ride on the beach, a lazy cycle to see local sights or a brisk 10K trek on a road bike, Hilton Head Island is a biking paradise. Hilton Head features 6 miles of bike lanes and over one mile of singletrack that lead to hidden treasures, natural wonders and beautiful parks and nature areas.

The Pope Avenue Bike paths, on both sides of this major thoroughfare to the beach, meander over wooden bridges crossing scenic lagoons and wind through lush foliage. The path along Pope Avenue heading west toward Sea Pines Circle will take you to Compass Rose Park, dedicated to Charles Fraser, the Island's modern-day visionary founder.

Hop on your bike and explore the entire island from our vacation rentals, which are all close to Hilton Head Island bike paths. The resort communityPalmetto Dunes, Shelter Cove and Forest Beach offer free access areas so you can cycle around and enjoy the island tranquility. Sea Pines Plantation can be accessed by paying a small gate fee to bring your bicycles in by car only, or you can rent them at the Sea Pines Center near Harbour Town.

Hilton Head Biking Parks

Fish Haul Creek Park - Cycle through this remote 16 acre park at Fish Haul Creek with a maritime forest, wetlands, salt marsh and a beach. A shaded trail winds through live oaks to the sandy shore of Port Royal Sound.

Barker Field Observation Deck - Ride along the boardwalk behind Barker Field toward Port Royal Sound. An observation deck awaits you at the end of the boardwalk, rewarding bikers with expansive views across the Sound and magnificent morning sunrises.

Greens Shell Community Park - Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, this scenic park has an elevated boardwalk for biking with views of Skull Creek and Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge. Bike over to the park's archeological gem - a large shell ring that encloses a Native American farming village, and picnic areas.

Shelter Cove Community Park - Enjoy biking along the pathway through this peaceful park with a white granite memorial on the bank of Broad Creek honoring American veterans. Take in views over the marsh and creek at the observation deck, or take a break on benches under the arbors.

Old House Creek Pier - Ride your bike to this secluded fishing and crabbing pier with vistas across the Intercoastal Waterway. Old House Creek Pier has a wildlife viewing area at the end where you can see the school of shrimp scamper across the the water and the fiddler crabs dance down the mud bank.
