The flyovers are now open on the mainland, soaring overhead as you head onto the island from I-95. Apart from making a dramatic entrance to Hilton Head Island, this new addition helps alleviate some of the traffic that can sometimes build up on the 278 corridor before the bridges.
At a cost of $45 million, the 4,200-foot-long roadway was nearly a decade in the planning before construction officially began three years ago. Now, we can finally enjoy taking the high road during day trips off the island.
The next time you head out of town, pull up the ramp to the flyoevers and enjoy a magnificent bird’s eye view of Hilton Head Island!
