Hilton Head Island Biking GuideTime flies, and so do you, on our Hilton Head Island bike trailsIWhether your idea of a perfect holiday is a lazy cycle to places unknown or a brisk 10K trek on a road bike, Hilton Head Island currently offers more than 53miles of protected public pathways. From Sea Pines north to the bridge on William Hilton Parkway and along miles of beach and other scenic areas, Hilton Head has pathways that will set your cycling spirit free. Completed in 2008, were the Pope Avenue Bike paths. Located on both sides of this major thoroughfare to the beach, the paths often meander over wooden bridges crossing scenic lagoons, and wind through lush foliage. The path along Pope Avenue heading west toward the Sea Pines Circle will also take you past Compass Rose Park which is dedicated to Charles Frazier, the Island's visionary founder. Although you can cycle from nearly one end of the island to the other and all of our vacation rentals are close to bike paths, not all the Island's plantations are accessible by bicycle. The resort and residential communities of Port Royal, Palmetto Dunes and Shipyard have some free access areas to the major oceanfront hotels. Sea Pines Plantation can be accessed by paying a small gate fee to bring your bicycles in by car only. Or, you can rent them at the Sea Pines Center located near Harbourtown. If you don't feel like packing your bike, there are many bicycle shops that rent by the day or week and will deliver and pick-up bikes to your vacation rental free of charge. If you are a biking enthusiast, there are several specialty stores and repair shops that cater to any special needs. They also know of weekly free group rides that offer a bit more challenge than a leisurely ride up island bike paths. Spinnaker at Shipyard and Southwind II rentals come with 2 free bicycles. Plus, we have special rates for our guests with several bicycle companies. Be sure to ask our Vacation Counselors if your rental comes with bicycles and about our special bicycle rental rates for your cycling holiday. |
