The Lowcountry’s tastiest export deserves its biggest party.

As far as the “R” months go, November’s probably the best for an oyster roast on Hilton Head Island. The no see ‘ums are still out in September and October, and by December it’s already getting too cold to gather around the oyster table.

But November is in that zone that just makes it the perfect time of year to get out and enjoy the bounty of our Lowcountry waters. Shelter Cove knows it, and that’s why they’ve saved one of their biggest parties of the year, the three-day Hilton Head Oyster Festival, for this Friday from 5-8 p.m. and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

If you’re a fan of our area’s most delicious catch, you’re in for a steamed, fried and stewed extravaganza. And even if, for some reason, you’re not a fan, you’ll still find plenty of reasons to come out. Apart from the see-and-be-seen social whirlwind at the oyster festival, you’ll find plenty of mouth-watering offerings from the many fine restaurants at Shelter Cove.

No Hilton Head Island event would be complete without some toe-tapping live music, and you’ll find it here with B-Town Playaz Friday night. Saturday sees Richmond Brothers, Lyn Avenue and Matt Mackelcan Band, with Sunday’s lineup including Richmond Brothers, Zack Stiltner Band and Whiskey Run.

All this plus marshmallow roasting, a kids zone so the adults are free to spend a little grownup time with friends and a special sports zone for catching all the college and pro football the weekend has to offer.
