This means the azaleas are in bloom, the daffodils have already gone by, and pools are beginning to be serviced to open up soon!  All over the island people are biking and enjoying the scenery—even the scenery that is still in recovery after Hurricane Matthew. With 60 miles of public pathways for running or biking, Hilton Head is a gold-level bike-friendly community.

But a hurricane can’t get #HHIStrong down! We are busily preparing for the Southeast Biking Symposium, three days of all things cycling! With over 200 biking enthusiasts, there will be 12 breakout sessions, four keynote addresses, two cocktail receptions, breakfasts, lunch, and s’mores bonfire beach party!  Of course there will also be plenty of good bike riding! Three rides, actually, culminating in the Hilton Head Island Wingfest. Keynote speakers will be Celebrity and former pro cyclist, Christian Vande Velde, Toole Design Group Director of Strategy and former President of the League of American Bicylists, Andy Clarke, Ariana Pernice, Vice President of the Hilton Head Island Visitor and Convention Bureau and Ashley Trexler, Washington Post and Huffington Post blogger.

Registration comes with a beach bike and helmet rental (thank you Hilton Head Bicycling Company), and plenty of time to “celebrate successes, share lessons learned and exchange ideas on how to make the Southeast the best place to live, work and play for biking in the United States.”
